Term 2 Week 11 2020

We are Super Heroes!

We hope you enjoy this video of our artwork and learning.
Look at Nova and Halo's amazing symmetrical creations made with the cuisenaire rods.

This week we have also been learning about Matariki. This is the shared writing we completed after lots of clever thinking. We remembered to use the new vocabulary we had learned the meanings of.
MATARIKI
Matariki is the Māori  New   Year.
A cluster of seven stars in the east.
Tāwhirimātea blew the seven kites far
away.
A time to celebrate with a Matariki feast.
Right now in June we can see the
Matariki stars.
It is time for planting new crops.
Kaimoana is gathered and the fishing is
great.
It is a time for sharing stories from the
past.

Term 2 Week 10 2020

 Bubble Trouble

This week we had the pleasure of celebrating one of our school values, 'Diversity or Rereketanga' in a very special way. We learned that some people in India celebrate a person who has died by doing something for others to make them happy, so that the person who died will be happy. What a lovely tradition. Each student at the school was privileged to be given a gift bag that included a large bubble maker and . . . this did make us very happy!! Thank you Mr and Mrs Patel for your generosity. We are feeling sad for you for your loss and also that you were not able to go back to India to be with your family.
Fun in the sun making masses of bubbles.

What a wonderful way to end the day!
We experimented with blowing, waving and running with the bubble wands. Large and small bubbles were carried in the breeze across the field and some even rose above the trees and floated across the road towards the lake.

If you look carefully at the photos you may see the bubbles!
 Bubbles galore!

We love bubbles! Thank you Preet's family for making us very happy! We hope you are happy too!

Keeping fit and having fun

We also had Matua Garth in to teach us some more games. We loved our learning with the hula hoops. It is great being able to use the whare on wet days.
Creeping, crawling, jumping and hopping like animals.

 Listening carefully to instructions.
 Sharing hoops and counting.
Rolling and controlling the hoops.

The Hairy Scary Spider

This was our poem for the week. We really liked this poem!
We made spiders out of paper plates, card, pipe cleaners and fluffy wool.

We also completed some fabulous writing using our imaginations, about discovering a hairy, scary spider. Here is our writing.

I saw a spider in my cage in my room. It was black and hairy with eight legs. My spider eats flies that we catch for it. I am not scared of spiders at all!!    Nathanael

I saw a spider on my pillow. It was running towards the window to get out. It was black and had babies on it's back.    Isaiah

I saw a spider on the window at home. It had two flies in the cobweb. It was giant and black and eating the flies.                             Harley-James

I saw a spider on my pillow. I hit it and it ran onto Thomas's face and jumped on the floor. It was red with claws.    Grayson

I saw a spider on the window in my bedroom. It was making a spider web for its home. It was a little hairy jumping spider.    Shaylyn

I saw a spider on my playground and I screamed. It ran across my foot and out the door. It was hairy and scary. I don't like spiders!                                        Indi

I saw a spider at the beach on the sand dunes. I smacked it with my jandal.    Jayden

I saw a black spider in my house and I let it go. It ran outside and I was lucky!
Di' Andre

I found a black spider in my house on my wall. The big spider ran away. I like spiders!    Thomas

I saw a black spider when it ran away. It was scary and hairy and I fed it to the chooks!    Tahli

I saw a spider in my bedroom. The spider went in my bed!                                           Liam

I saw a black spider on the tree. The spider was hairy and ugly and I said, "Shoo! Shoo! Shoo!"             Nova

Term 2 Week 8

Welcome

We are so happy to have April, Liam, Mia and Nova join our class! Congratulations on having such a super-duper first week in Te Kakano!

Today we had an online whole school assembly taken by Te Kauru class. Te Pihi invited us to join them in their classroom so we could see Te Kauru on the big screen. It was cool and we had to listen very carefully for our names as they were called out for certificates.

Congratulations to all of you for your excellent mahi this week!
